An association with a reduction in the risk of the primary endpoint was found with febuxostat compared with allopurinol in the subgroups with a history of peripheral artery disease (HR: 0.643, 95% CI: 0.495 to 0.837 versus HR: 0.981, 95% CI: 0.858 to 1.123, P for interaction=0.002) and without a prescription of insulin (HR: 0.906, 95% CI: 0.792 to 1.510 versus HR: 1.173, 95% CI: 0.911 to 1.510, P for interaction=0.045).
