VEGFA and preeclampsia: The expression of both placental growth factor and vascular endothelial growth factor was significantly higher in choriocarcinoma cells in vivo conditions with high blood glucose levels.[24] Abnormal glucose metabolism is a significant risk factor for preeclampsia because it disrupts the balance of placental angiogenic factors.[25] In our study, the pregnant women with the rs231840 TT genotype had higher blood glucose levels and also a greater risk for preeclampsia.
