FGF21 and acute myocardial infarction: This finding stands in contrast to previous research that primarily highlighted the protective role of FGF21 in cardiovascular health, particularly through its regulation of lipid metabolism and inflammatory responses.[47] Additionally, research has demonstrated the protective role of FGF21 in acute myocardial infarction, potentially through the activation of the AMPK-FGF21 loop, reducing ischemia/reperfusion injury in cardiac myocytes.[48] However, our findings suggest that FGF21 may exhibit divergent roles, contributing to an increased risk of CHD under certain conditions.
