ACHE and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease: Given the potential calming effects of lemon balm via GABA availability (GABAA receptor affinity, inhibition of GABA-T) [21,24] and inhibition of the acetylcholinesterase enzyme (AChE) [25,26]—a key target site for current management of Alzheimer’s disease [27]—lemon balm may subsequently regulate mood and sleep cycles in this population.
