LPA and aortic valve calcification: In 2013, Thanassoulis et al. [15] however, demonstrated through three cohort studies (Framingham Heart Study (FHS) cohort [47], the Age, Gene/Environment Susceptibility–Reykjavik Study (AGES-RS) cohort [48], and white European participants in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) [49]) that one single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) on chromosome 6, rs10455872, located within intron 25 of the LPA gene, achieved genome-wide significance for aortic valve calcification after adjustment for age and sex (odd ratio [OR] = 2.05; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.63–2.57, p = 9.0 × 10−10).
