SF1 and cholestasis: Bile acids, particularly under conditions of cholestasis (a state of elevated bile acid levels due to impaired bile flow), are shown to stimulate steroidogenesis in both mouse models and human adrenocortical H295R cells through a specific signalling pathway involving the sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 2 (S1PR2), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), and steroidogenic factor 1 (SF-1).
