KDR and Merkel cell skin cancer: In addition to apatinib, there are two ongoing trials that will explore TKIs as multimodal therapies, including one with axitinib (VEGFR-1,2,3 inhibitor) with sansanlimab (anti-PD1 antibody) and PF-07265807, which targets AXL and MERTK, thereby inhibiting tumor-associated macrophage kinases (NCT04458259; active, not recruiting), as well as another phase II trial exploring pembrolizumab with lenvatinib (VEGFR, FGFR, and RET inhibitor) given 6 weeks prior to surgery in patients with MCC (NCT04869137) [5].
