NFE2L2 and fibrosarcoma: When under oxidative stress, excess ROS promotes the release of Nrf2 from the Nrf2-Keap1-Cul3 complex and into the nucleus, where it forms a heterodimer with V-Maf musculoaponeurotic fibrosarcoma (Maf) and recognizes the antioxidant reaction element (ARE) and binds to it, which in turn promotes the expression of antioxidant enzymes and phase II detoxification enzymes and exerts antioxidant effects (Figure 2) [70,71].
