A total of 119 participants with APOL1 high-risk genotypes underwent DNA methylation profiling, consisting of 27 cases with CKD (14 biopsy-confirmed APOL1 nephropathy: HIVAN 10, FSGS 3, hypertension 1), 55 controls with persistently normal kidney function and 37 individuals with previous acute kidney injury or mild CKD. This evidence concerns the gene APOL1 and HIV-associated nephropathy.
