We have demonstrated the following: 1) the anti-inflammatory macrophage populations were depauperated in the pericardium of CAD patients; 2) PF-sEV formed in a CAD environment have detrimental effects on Mφ by reducing their anti-inflammatory Mφ population in vitro; and 3) the expression level of miR-6516-5p could be targeted therapeutically to regulate the expression of anti-inflammatory CD36 in pericardial macrophages. Here, CD36 is linked to coronary artery disorder.
