Since all of these markers are associated with high CD8+ T-cell densities, CD8 could serve as a potential biomarker for immunotherapy response.49,50 Immunotherapy is continuously advancing in GC, with multiple trials investigating (neo)adjuvant ICI combinations in non-metastatic disease.51, –53 In the phase II PANDA trial, neoadjuvant atezolizumab (anti-PD-L1) and subsequent chemotherapy led to a major pathological response.52 CD8+ T cells were increased in biopsies of responders after atezolizumab monotherapy.
