In other studies, TRPV4 activity has been reported to be largely unaltered or even increased in hypertension.26 Further confusing the situation, the alterations in TRPV4 activity that occur in hypertension may either increase vasodilation,26 reduce vasodilation,23–25 evoke endothelium-dependent contractions,27 or have little effect.28 As a result of the various reported changes in TRPV4 activity, numerous hypotheses have emerged concerning the physiological or pathophysiological implications of altered TRPV4 activity in hypertension. This evidence concerns the gene TRPV4 and Hypertension.
