In a meta-analysis by Mesas et al. including 60 studies with a total of 51,225 patients from hospitals in 13 countries, decreased platelet count, decreased hemoglobin concentration, increased creatinine, increased interleukin 6 and increased cardiac troponin I were found to be associated with a higher risk of in-hospital death in COVID-19 patients ≤60 years of age [21]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and COVID-19.
