Further examination of the CD4+ T cell subset levels in the peripheral blood and adipose tissue of newly diagnosed T2D patients showed that CD4+ T cells tended to be polarized into pro-inflammatory Th1 and Th17 cells in T2D patients, ultimately leading to inflammation and insulin resistance, underscoring the crucial role of CD4+ T subpopulations in the pathogenesis of T2D (46). The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
