Following the infiltration into lesions, monocyte-derived cells express CD9, genes involved in cholesterol efflux and lipid handling (Fabp4, Trem2, Abcg1), Lgals3, Gpnmb, Ctsd, and Spp1 [145], which resembles the phenotype of LAMs during obesity. This evidence concerns the gene TREM2 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
