NLRP3 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency: Overweight and obesity promote chronic low‐grade inflammation, which is characterized by increased circulating proinflammatory cytokine levels.[30, 31] Obesity‐induced metabolic stress favors excessive activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome resulting in proinflammatory cytokine release,[32] which seems to be one underlying mechanism via that circulating monocytes contribute to systemic low‐grade inflammation.
