PPARA and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease: Recently, studies in 158 N and BV-2 nerve cells show that AO from Agadir and Berkane (the two main producing regions of AO in Morocco) is able to attenuate the cytotoxic effects of 7-ketocholesterol (7KC), which is increased in the brain of patients with Alzheimer’s disease: loss of cell adhesion, cell growth inhibition, increased plasma membrane permeability, attenuation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) overproduction, mitochondrial, peroxisomal and lysosomal dysfunction, and a decrease in mRNA levels of the nuclear peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) [61,62].
