IFNG and COVID-19: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a cause of significant morbidity and mortality worldwide, is known to induce a pro-inflammatory state with concomitant T-cell dysfunction.5 This reduces the ability to produce IFN-γ, which is required in determining and interpreting IGRA test results.6 Furthermore, it has been documented that COVID-19 can cause immune dysregulation in patients, resulting in cytokine storms and diffuse damage to organs, especially pulmonary parenchyma.
