EGFR and carcinoma of esophagus: Inhibition of EGFR has also shown some activity in the second-line setting for oesophageal cancer where, despite there being no improvement in OS with gefitinib versus placebo in an intention-to-treat population, a subgroup of EGFR copy number gain tumours (20.1%) demonstrated improved OS (hazard ratio 0.59, 95% confidence interval 0.35-1.00, P = 0.05).13
