We further verified that reducing BAG3 levels in primary neurons exacerbated pathological tau accumulation, whereas its overexpression attenuated tau accumulation [22], which is consistent with previous reports that BAG3 regulates tau clearance [12, 42, 49, 52–54, 90], and its level is reduced in excitatory (EX) neurons in human AD. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
