ALCAM and neoplasm: CD166 is a transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily that is involved in diverse cellular processes, including T-cell activation, haematopoiesis, trans-endothelial migration of neutrophils, angiogenesis, inflammation, and tumor growth and metastasis (Ofori-Acquah and King, 2008; Tachezy et al., 2012a,b; van Kilsdonk et al., 2008; Weidle et al., 2010).
