HSD11B2 and chronic kidney disease: Using a computational model derived from the parameterized rate equations of key enzymes involved in peripheral 11-oxygenated androgen biosynthesis, we were able to demonstrate that decreased HSD11B2 activity alone could account for changes in the serum steroid profiles in patients with CKD, and that the predicted decrease in relative HSD11B2 correlated well with disease stage (with only a small underestimation for the F/E ratio in the severest disease stage, Fig 5A).
