Interestingly, recent data suggest that T-bet–expressing invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells and type I innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) aggravate atherosclerosis through the elaboration of pro-inflammatory cytokines IFN-γ and TNF-α (6, 7, 46), while Tregs control the activation of NKT cells and ILCs (47, 48). The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is atherosclerosis.
