CD52 and infection: Alemtuzumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting CD52, normally used for immunologically challenging transplants was used less commonly because of its cytotoxic effect on lymphocytes.31 Owing to the increased risk of infection, basiliximab, a monoclonal antibody that competitively inhibits interleukin-2-mediated activation of lymphocytes, was preferred,32 thus introducing a lack of standardisation between regimes.
