BCL2 and viral infectious disease: Viruses inhibit or induce apoptosis in various tissues and in different ways [6]—some by regulating the expression of proteins from the Bcl-2 family (such as Bid, Bcl2) or by mimicking them [5, 7], and others either directly by viral proteins [6, 8] or indirectly by activating cellular mechanism-leading to apoptosis that enhance viral infection efficiency [9] often by directly targeting the mitochondria [10].
