Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN) pars compacta and the presence of insoluble protein aggregates (Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites) primarily composed of α-synuclein (α-syn) (Colom-Cadena et al., 2017). This evidence concerns the gene SNCA and Parkinson disease.
