Boyault et al. (2012) performed a study on 120 human primary breast tumors and found that PIK3CA is one of the five genes commonly mutated in breast cancer, with a substantial proportion of tumors carrying mutations in either TP53 or in genes of the PI3K pathway (PIK3CA, PTEN, or AKT1) [89]. The gene discussed is PIK3CA; the disease is breast carcinoma.
