In a recent case report, Grout et al. reported that a pediatric patient with DKA had resistant hypokalemia and subsequent ventricular tachycardia arrest when the patient’s potassium level was < 2.0 mEq/L while on insulin drip, providing evidence for withholding insulin therapy when potassium levels are < 3.3 mEq/L [19]. This evidence concerns the gene INS and Hypokalemia.
