CD36 and neoplasm: TME produces a large amount of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (OxLDL), which is taken up by CD8+ depleted T cells with high expression of CD36 (fatty acid transporter molecule), and the up-regulation of intracellular lipid peroxidation triggers the activation of stress protein p38 and T cell ferroptosis, which leads to the dysfunction of CD8+ T cell function and decrease of anti-tumor effect by the decrease of expression of TNF-α (37).
