VEGFA and atrophic macular degeneration: DL algorithms have also been applied for drusen quantification on fundus photographs,[105] geographic atrophy measurement on OCT,[106] and prediction of anti-VEGF treatment needs.[107] De Fauw et al demonstrated that a DL model, with an accuracy matching experts could triage AMD cases into routine, urgent, or emergency categories based on OCT scans.[4] Real-world utility of AI-assisted AMD screening has been confirmed through different studies, including a multicenter evaluation of an autonomous AI system for diagnosing AMD in primary care settings.[10]
