It is possible that the gene is a wrong annotation and that the upstream Xbp1 binding site may be controlling CLN3 expression, like in S. cerevisiae, although there was no difference in the transcription levels (RNAPII occupancy) of CLN3 between the Cgxbp1∆ mutant and wild-type during the infection time course (Figure 2—figure supplement 2C).
