In Nigeria, it accounts for 90% of all cases of DM [5]. The pathogenesis of Type 2 DM is characterized by insulin resistance, which develops due to subclinical inflammation [6,7]. Studies have found increased inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and soluble tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) in Type 2 DM patients [6,8]. This evidence concerns the gene CRP and diabetes mellitus.
