To achieve this, we selected a panel of cytokines, including interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-13, IL-17D, IL-1RA, tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), and the adipokines leptin and adiponectin, as well as the acute-phase protein CRP, all measured before BC diagnosis as part of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC). The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is breast cancer.
