Adiponectin levels were significantly lower in patients with atherothrombotic stroke (4.76 [3.76–12] vs. 11.35 [8.86–14.7] microg/nL, p = 0.02) and were positively correlated with MUFA consumption (r = 0.35, p = 0.005) and PUFA consumption (r = 0.29, p = 0.025), and specifically linoleic acid (r = 0.25, p = 0.049), EPA (r = 0.38, p = 0.003), and DHA (r = 0.27, p = 0.036).
