SLC5A2 and peripheral arterial disease: Due to the significant and twofold increased risk of amputations in patients treated with the SGLT2 inhibitor canagliflozin compared with placebo, as shown in the CANVAS study, and considering the potential class effect, caution is recommended when introducing SGLT2 inhibitors into the treatment of patients at increased risk of lower limb amputations, which includes patients with PAD [17,25,26].
