In support of this theory, it has been shown that mouse hepatoma Hepa-1c1c7 (Hepa-1) cells treated with chromate caused the cross-linking of DNMT1 with HDAC1, which resulted in reduced methylation activity; this may be attributed to Cr(III) formed upon the intracellular reduction of Cr(VI) [40].
