In this context, it is worth mentioning that in some neurological diseases, such as epilepsy, neuropathic pain, and spinal cord injury, a downregulation in KCC2 has also been shown to be mediated by BDNF, which underlies the characteristic hyperexcitability of these diseases due to the depolarizing activity of GABA [17,18,42,43,54]. This evidence concerns the gene BDNF and epilepsy.
