In contrast to the negative role of MIR-155-5p, MIR-223-3p seems to function synergistically with anti-inflammatory defense mechanisms since it has been shown that in Streptococcus-based sepsis in mice, MIR-223 targets NLRP3 (NLR family pyrin domain containing 3) mRNAs and suppresses the formation of NLRP-3 inflammasome. Here, NLRP3 is linked to Sepsis.
