PTH and familial primary hypomagnesemia: In this model, rats fed with high doses of sodium IP6 (3 and 5%) exhibited decreases in growth rate, fat-free lean mass, whole-body fat, mineral absorption (calcium, magnesium, and iron), hypophosphatemia, hypomagnesemia, hypocalcemia (only in 5%), marked increases in parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels and the BUN/creatinine ratio, kidney injury including calcium deposits, and bone loss.
