CCL2 and Anxiety: It is well known that stress enhances monocyte trafficking to the brain in mice with anxiety [14], and MCP-1 overproduction could contribute to the adverse effects of anxiety by inducing the peripheral mobilization of activated monocytes; in fact, the attenuated release of MCP-1 decreased the mobilization of monocytes in a rodent model of the disease [40], a phenomenon potentially reflected in our study findings.
