Our findings in patients with anxiety also agree with the attenuated myeloperoxidase activity reported in pre-clinical models [42]; in addition, the MCP-1 blockade prevented monocyte recruitment in rodent models [33,40,41,42,43], suggesting that the chemotactic effects may have been dependent on the alteration in MCP-1 levels observed in our study.
