Other studies suggest a direct link between DNA methylation, gene expression and obesity status: for examples, in obesity condition it was observed a decreased methylation and therefore an increased expression of SOCS3 (Wang et al. 2018), a gene involved in insulin and leptin resistance with severe implication for glucose homeostasis (Pedroso et al. 2019). The gene discussed is SOCS3; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
