Simvastatin is highly sensitive to metabolization by the cytochrome p450-3A4 (CYP3A4) enzyme system, and CYP3A4 inhibitors, including some antibiotics, antifungals, protease inhibitors, and calcium channel blockers, raised the simvastatin serum concentration and induced rhabdomyolysis in a case study [137]. Here, CYP3A4 is linked to rhabdomyolysis.
