This natural marine compound, which was initially isolated from Dactylospongia elegants [15] and later from Petrosaspongia metachromia [16] and Hyrtros erectus [17], is bioactive against Plasmodium and trypanosome, showing significant activity against P. falciparum with an IC50 value of 0.8 μM [15,16], has insecticidal activity [16,17], exhibits cytotoxicity against HeLa cancer cells [18], has anti-inflammatory activity by activating inositol-5-phosphatase (SHIP) [19], and possesses good antifungal activity against Rhizoctonia solani, with EC50 values of 7.7 μM [20].
