This is underscored by the fact that, over the past two decades, only two drugs have been approved by the FDA for treating SLE or LN: belimumab, a monoclonal antibody against the IFN-induced B-cell proliferation and differentiation factor BAFF, and anifrolumab, a monoclonal antibody blocking the type I IFN receptor [52,53].
