NfL levels after preterm birth have been assessed as a potential marker for preterm morbidities, including intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) and periventricular hemorrhage (IVH1-4), posthemorrhagic ventricular dilatation (PHVD),4,10,11 and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).3 Infants with ROP demonstrate an increased risk for compromised neurodevelopment, underscoring the eye-brain connection.12,13 Additionally, neonatal NfL levels may correlate with long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes in very and moderate preterm infants.3,4,11. Here, NEFL is linked to retinopathy of prematurity.
