Submassive pulmonary emboli are characterized by hemodynamically stable PE accompanied by pulmonary hypertension on echocardiography, RV cavity expansion, interventricular septal deviation, or a right-to-left ventricular ratio equal to or greater than 0.9 on CT angiography, with or without elevated troponin and BNP levels [2]. The gene discussed is NPPB; the disease is pulmonary hypertension.
