In a previous study, subjects diagnosed with MBS displayed elevated concentrations of plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1 (PAI-1) compared to their healthy counterparts [40]. The involvement of PAI-1, along with tissue plasminogen activator, is integral to the pathogenesis of periodontitis through the modulation of extracellular matrix proteolysis. This evidence concerns the gene SERPINE1 and Mobius syndrome.
