TLR-2, TLR-4, and TLR-9, which are predominantly expressed in KCs, are critical in the pathogenesis of steatosis, inflammation, and fibrosis in several diet-induced mouse models of NAFLD and NASH (Miura et al., 2010; Nakamoto and Kanai, 2014; Yin et al., 2014). The gene discussed is TLR9; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
