Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) and dual GLP-1/gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonists (GLP-based therapies) are newer pharmacologic therapies that are used for management of hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes and are approved for weight loss purposes in the absence of underlying diabetes.
