WTAP and infection: N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification plays pivotal roles in the regulation of infection by various viruses, including influenza A virus (IAV), enterovirus 71, HIV-1, and SARS-CoV-2.23–27 The reversible m6A modification catalyzed by “writers”, “erasers”, and “readers”, is the most abundant modification on eukaryotic messenger RNAs (mRNAs).28–31 The “writers” encompass methyltransferase-like (METTL)3 and METTL14 alongside the splicing factor Wilms’ tumor-1-associating protein (WTAP).
